BAN ON BIKES AND CARS, INTO THAILAND 2017

BANGKOK: --The government has banned imports of used body parts for passenger cars and motorcycles in order to prevent tax evasion, while the Transport Ministry has also banned the registration of cars assembled from used parts. Around 4,000 vehicles assembled locally from imported used body parts were registered in Thailand last year. This affects domestic assemblers because vehicles with used parts have lower prices than comparable domestically produced vehicles.Transport Ministry will ban the registration of four types of passenger vehicles containing used parts, including those with capacity of more than seven persons and 12 persons, personal trucks and motorcycles. Not sure on imports for returning Thais on Used cars at this time.

Importing a car into Thailand, whether new or used, for personal use or for sale, you must pay taxes and duties. For all foreigners before writing to us the duty and tax on used vehicles is approx 188% min. If you value your car at $2000 it does not necessarily mean your duty will be less as Thai Customs will value on their rates only.

Used vehicles are restricted goods and generally not allowed for importation into Thailand, except for temporary imports as mentioned above or imports under the conditions specified by the Ministry of Commerce.Importer will need to obtain an "Import Permit" from the Ministry of Commerce. Each scheme has its own specific requirements. It is important that the importer should find out whether he can meet those requirements before committing.

 

Importing a used Vehicle from your country to Thailand.

 1) Car register book: how long have you owned the vehicle; & please send us a copy.
 2) Car register plate: Number of the plate; details.
 3) Passport Copy of the owner of the car
 4) Full details of the vehicle being imported as CC of engine and value.
 
5) Driver License
 
6) Purcharge order
 
7) Work Permit (No require for Thai Nationality)
 
8) Permission from immigration division for retire visa (No require for Thai Nationality)
 
9) Home registration for address in Thailand
 
10) Statement of your account in Thailand or UK (Refer to you are available to pay import taxes)

- Takes time 1-2 month to get an import permit after presenting the import document.
             
- If importing by your Thai wifes/husbands name,that Thai must have owned the car 1.6 years in her/his name before importing
