PICKUP LOADS IN THAILAND

As you can see the loads in Thailand are over the moon and no red flag is displayed.

REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING IF YOU HAVE LOADS ON PICKUPS

/. Cover the whole load with a tapaulin or cover & tie down. Even cover any overhang over the back of the tailgate.

/. There is a height limit 1.5 above the height of the pickup or ute but its not really enforced or looked at?

/. Tailgate down is Ok but again the extended load must be covered completely especially on motorways or all Tollways like Highway 7 & even if carrying motorcycles that are sitting on the tailgate (in the down position).

/. On all loads even higher than your cab display a red flag on the back even if its inside the tailgate.Play safe as you will see many Thais without, but don't do it.

/. Drive as far on the left side wherever possible and never in lane 3 or 4 in a 4 laner as you will get a ticket. This means really the far left lane N o 1for all pickups with loads.

/. If you see a highway Police never change lanes nor change a lane at the last minute if the Police are there?you will be booked or bribed. If so give 100baht & dont flash your wallet.

/. On Highway 7 between Bkk Highway 9 on the Bang Pa In motorway the Hway 7 checkpoint if heading towards Lamlukha or Nakhon Nayok or Ayutthaya has a smoke emission check. The police will fine you 500baht if your car's smole emission is over a certain limit & most older pickups are prone to this. The fine lasts 1 month & if you get caught again just show them your last ticket citation. Change your aircleaners if this is the case and stay in the far right lanes when approaching the tollway as the emission is setup on the left side so the first 4 lanes always get pulled over or avoid the Tollway

/. Keep yout seat belt on when stopped by a Police.

/. Have your license handy so noone can see inside your wallet & a few doleros $$$.

/. Coming into Bangkok in the early hours DO NOT use the tollways as the staff will kick you off in a pickup with a load & you will not be able to go thru. It can be a hassle at 8am if you don't know the rules as there are no signs on the motorway/expressways. A load covered with no extensions over the tailgate is OK as long as its at the level of the pickup sides but higher to just below the roof level is supposed to be ok. Depends on who catches you I guess?

/. Buying A HIGHLINE CANOPY also you are not allowed to use the tollways on peak mornings so ask when you buy one. If you add a canopy on the back of the pickup then when you reregister the vehicle you must change the form. Make sure you keep the receipt from the shop you purchased the canopy to make the change on the required form for your new registration sticker.

/. On the tollways the Highway Police have strict rules on loads so again cover complete on all roads or don't use the tollways at all. From Pattaya to Nakhon Nayok theres 4 tollways @ 30 baht each. The one on the Bang Pa In section from Highway 9 by Bangkok that rejoins Highway 7 is where the road check for smoke emission is at the 3rd tollway. To avoid this take the Chachoengsao offroad after the first tollway.
